Little Pieces of March

Well, everyone told me this would happen, but I didn't believe it would happen to me: I'm so busy with life that I've kinda forgotten about the blog. Much apologies!

It's been cold. Really cold. Still. The first week of March was heavenly; sunny and in the low forties every day. I even wore a dress WITHOUT tights one day (but with woolen high knee socks) - people looked at me like I was crazy, but I wasn't cold! Then I went to London, and upon return, the temperature dropped back down to freezing and hasn't budged. It's windy as hell, too. And snowy... oh man, do I take California weather for granted.

Weather before London:

Weather after London:

Mehh. But it's okay. I have to experience Real-Live-Winter at least once in my life, right?

A great perk of having so much free time is that I've been cooking again, lots. I really love it. I find myself blowing my weekly budget on fancy groceries more often than I'd like to admit, but it feels so good to eat homemade and healthy after two months of danish pastries and whatnot.

Some favorite & particularly photogenic (but not exactly healthy) meals:

^^Pesto-potato egg bake with roasted garlic.

^^Grilled cheese with brie, mushrooms and caramelized onions (oh man).

^^Raspberry custard.

^^Not homemade: Raspberry-walnut pancakes from Kalaset.

I'm unusually good at finding something to complain about (see weather rant above) no matter how wonderful life is, and its a habit I need to get rid of. In spite of the wind, snow, cold, life's just a bit yummier here.

  1. You're making me hungry! What else do you do for fun? Do you go to the dance clubs? The "disco" as it is (or was) called in Europe? I only went like twice the whole year I was in Germany.
It'll warm up eventually... maybe in a month or two. Then it will be positively heavenly and beautiful!

  2. We occasionally go to pubs and whatnot, but I haven't made it to a disco yet. Alcohol is expensive here and I volunteer at a cafe/bar so I get free beer there... it works out quite nicely. We do have the sunshine back, workin on the whole warmth thing. Progress!
