When my mom, Rochelle & I were in Amsterdam earlier this month, we popped over to Bruges/Brugge, Belgium for a day with a group tour. To sum the city up: gorgeous and a tourist trap. Bruges - at least the Bruges we witnessed - is not a living city. The streets were filled with tourists, but for good reason, I suppose, because the city is really fascinating. It has been for the most part preserved since medieval times, so you feel like you're walking through a different era. It was raining on the day we went, but the weather just seemed to highlight how beautiful and lush the city was.

^A great example of the preserved architecture throughout the city.

^Rochelle and I both bought a pot full of mussels for lunch - they're supposed to be famous - and were slightly underwhelmed. But they were still mussels and therefore still delicious.

^See? Ate all of 'em.

^Exploring the city.

^Green green green Bruges.
^And finally... Hi Belgian Waffle!
Conclusions about Bruges: Beautiful city and worth a day trip, but not a destination in itself. I would love to see more of Belgium - next time, Ghent and Brussels.
