Okay -
Studying abroad is a big brave thing for me. In anticipation of this semester I have discovered that I'm a homebody, a control freak, and find comfort in being surrounded by lots of THINGS - I'm going to majorly struggle when it comes to packing. In other words, I'm slowly coming to realize all the things I take for granted in my life at home. I guess there's a lot of that kind of realization in adolescence, it's probably what makes us grow. So here I go, I'm going to grow a shit ton.
Things I take for granted here, that I won't have in Europe:
a) my entire wardrobe
b) boyfriend snuggles
c) a mother, father, aunt, aunt, uncle, grandma, grandma, and grandpa five minutes away
d) my pups
e) infinite amounts of toiletries (I find I don't use many of them, just feel comforted by their presence)
f) Netflix, Hulu... gah
g) sharing similar backgrounds (and politics) with neighbors
h) an inordinate amount of christmas lights surrounding my habitat at all times
i) burritos
j) affordable... everything
Things I will have overseas:
a) new friends
b) new perspectives!
c) lots of fish (I'm expecting much of it pickled, and I'm somehow okay with that)
d) Danish pastries!
e) Ebelskiver (the only Danish food I've ever had)
f) feeling like a big free grown-up
g) my computer, iPod, camera, some kind of phone, and a hard drive chalk-full of movies, music, TV shows and eBooks (for those long train rides and those dark nights)
h) skype
i) real-live paper letters and postcard swaps with my loved ones
Here's to incredible opportunities, being brave and challenging myself. :)
