Anticipation
I had a nightmare about Copenhagen last night. I had just arrived at the airport, and the place was packed. Everyone knew where they were going, except me. It was like the mall on Black Friday, or something. There were mentors to pick us students up (all dressed in Ikea uniforms!) and they were laughing at us and joking in Danish. And I think my bags were so heavy that they broke the escalator.
Okay, thinking about it now, that was just silly. That's not going to happen. That dream was a manifestation of all my irrational fears about studying abroad for six months: feeling foreign, feeling alone, feeling lost and.... packing too much (real fear!).
But the dream also made me realize I really have no idea what to expect. So today I decided to do some research, so that I could ground my expectations in reality. I found a few blogs, some from native Danes and others from travelers, and plan on reading them often. I feel better already.
Here are a few:
"The Good, the Bread and the Ugly"
An Urban Travel Guide
Copenhagen Street Fashion
Lots More Travel Blogs from The Lonely Planet
P.S. I should just calm down. Felt this way before I went to college too, then over-researched until I felt better... hmmm...
